On a last moment whirlwind trip to L.A. for my new gig, I saw the city in a new light (with sunglasses on of course). The L.A. Art Book Fair organized by Printed Matter was quite a trip in itself. I got to soak it all in. Cool people making cool stuff.

While searching for a better copy (cover, font size, and paper weight) of The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles, I discovered the brilliant book covers designs of Alvin Lustig. The book covers he designed for New Directions are modern and geographic with a sense of playfulness. Not to mention he designed covers for many of my favorite authors. If only I could get my hands on a New Directions copy of the Sheltering Sky with his cover design. I might have to settle for these postcards for now.
I recently acquired another Black Sparrow Press book, Midnight Mass by Paul Bowles. Black Sparrow books are special in so many ways: paper texture, binding, cover design, and of course contents. The “full package” of a book. Here are a few from my small collection in various states of being well-loved.
