Notoriously Hitchcock

I’ve been on a Hitchcock kick thanks to a dear friend. She suggested I watch Notorious which happens to star two of my favorite old Hollywood heartthrobs Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. They both go undercover in order to solve the case. I wish I could go undercover as Ingrid Bergman. Thanks, NMM!

Ocean Dwelling

It was a clear crisp day so I hopped on my bike and rode to Ocean beach in search of clearheadedness. I found it there. Sometimes it takes starring into the ocean in order to find yourself again.  I was in the fine company of many other wide-eyed ocean gazers. Calmness ensued.

I Need You Bad- SF Garage Rock Compilation

I Need You Bad – a compilation of the Bay Area and beyond garage rock scene comes out tomorrow on Polyvinyl. It features some of my favorite local bands playing sweet tunes and is curated by the one and only Sonny Smith (of Sonny and the Sunsets). Can’t wait to see it performed live at the Chapel! You can listen to the album in it’s entirety here.

Cranberry Curd Goodness

It’s that cranberry time of year. Instead of making cranberry sauce/jam for Thanksgiving, I went a different route and made cranberry curd. I could just eat it by the spoonful but will refrain. Recipe here.

Moonface at the Swedish American Hall

Sometimes person and place come together to transform that moment. This happened when hearing Spencer Krug play the piano at the Swedish American Hall. It’s beautiful Swedish doors aren’t open very often. As expected, my much anticipated Moonface show left me elated. Can’t stop listening to Julia with the Blue Jeans On. The Bay Bridged gave a sweet review here.

Fort Point- Hitchcock’s Vertigo

After walking to the Wave Organ, I started my decent into the fog towards Fort Point. I just started reading The Definitive Study of Alfred Hitchcock by François Truffaut which inspired my walk to one of the filming locations in Vertigo. The Hitchcockesque fog added an element of suspense as I walked through Crissy Field past the Marco Di Suvero steel structures to Fort Point. The fog was so thick, I couldn’t see the bridge, just a lone bay swimmer right where Jimmy Stewart saves Kim Novak  in Vertigo. The fog gently parted ways and the Golden Gate Bridge slowly emerged as I left. I stopped in the Warming Hut to get warm, read, and write in my journal. It was a magical day spent walking, seeing, and reflecting.

The Wave Organ

The Wave Organ is the perfect place to venture to if you’re in search of peace and quiet. It’s not complete without a stop at the Dynamo Donut kiosk. I grabbed a cappuccino and wandered to the end of the jetty where the tide makes wave music. It was a magically part fog/part sun day. To the east was sun, to the west towards the Golden Gate Bridge was a film noir like fog. After taking in the calm, I had no choice but to continue my self-lead city walk into the blanket of fog.

Dream River Weekend

It’s a Bill Callahan Dream River weekend. Can’t wait to be in his magically subtle presence. This song is his musical interpretation of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass.

Fruit Crisp for One

Sometimes I just want a few bites of dessert. Single serving fruit crisps are super easy and satisfy my sweet tooth. I’m on an apple and persimmon kick so I made one of each.

Roasted Sunchokes

Also know as Jerusalem artichokes, sunchokes are a delicious nutty, artichokey, tuber. They are great in soup, stir-fry, or simply roasted with herbs. Yum!
