a great week end. indeed! part 1.

A best friend came in town for this fun-filled weekend and we really packed it in. Not only was this weekend filled with fun but it was also filled with firsts. We started out our Friday night by prosting (with eye contact of course) at the Hayes Valley Biergarten. (First!) They have a minimalist selection of German beers on tap, delicious pretzels and other beer accoutrements. It was a great start to the evening. After a lot of pretzel and a lot of kraut we headed to Marlena’s for a digestivo. (My first!) I’ve been told the best time to go to Marlena’s is during Christmas time when the abundance of Santa Claus are from ceiling to floor but this was a nice introduction. The tiaras really sparkle and I caught a glance of Marlena herself! Then we ventured over to Herb Theatre (first) to see Maira Kalman at City Arts & Lectures (first) who had just collaborated on a book with Daniel Handler. There was a test (are you a romantic) at the end that involved a question could you fall in love with the person sitting behind you. An older lady in front of us looked. Gave a look. and marked her true or false question: FALSE. I think just the act of looking was her answer. Maira did not wear a hat but she did follow us into the next adventure.

About Soup and the Clouds

I treasure the small adventures in life. Such as, listening to records, making jam from farmer's market produce, seeing new sites, eating the best tomato I've ever had, reading a good book, watching a film, appreciating a good font, going for a long bike ride or walking down a street I've never walked on before. The list goes on.
