101 Things for a Housewife to Do in 1949.

This book is pretty fascinating for so many reasons. Upon reading the title, I naturally took offense to the term “housewife” or what women should “do” but when opening the book and turning the pages I had a different response. The photographs and diagrams are pretty fascinating and the “things to do” provide insight into the daily doings of a post-war British housewife which might have included plumbing, basket weaving, painting and more!

Staining the hardwood floors….

Making Lampshades…

Preventing that double chin….

How to hold a nail file!

This means there are 97 more interesting things to do!

About Soup and the Clouds

I treasure the small adventures in life. Such as, listening to records, making jam from farmer's market produce, seeing new sites, eating the best tomato I've ever had, reading a good book, watching a film, appreciating a good font, going for a long bike ride or walking down a street I've never walked on before. The list goes on.
